About 70% of all pools in the Western Cape are fibreglass. Here are some of the reasons why:
Please reach us at info@trsprops.co.za if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Bucket Test:
Establish if this is due to condensation or a leak.
Place a bucket of water on the first step of your pool. Mark the current water level on the bucket and in the rest of the pool. Allow 24 – 48 hours before checking the levels in both the pool and the bucket. Has the bucket level dropped more than the pool? If the pool levels have dropped more than the bucket’s, the loss of water this may point to a leak.
Filtration & Pump Areas:
Please check for signs of moisture buildup, sounds of dripping, accumulated water, wet stains in and around the swimming pool pump, filter and visible signs of pipework, fittings and fixtures. Don’t forget the solar heating pump pipework running along the wall and roof. Give us a call if you need any help checking these.
Pump fittings and parts that have whitened or lightened needs to be checked carefully.
Swimming Pool Cracks, Holes, Blistering:
Are there any visible cracks or holes in the swimming pool shell? It is advisable to have these repaired as quickly as possible, as these will result in continuous water loss, and this water may leak into linings or the ground next to the pool increasing pressure on the fibreglass, gunniit, concrete and marbelite shells. This can cause bulging, blisters and delamination. These may also place excessive pressure on the pool pump.
Are there any visible holes, cracks, gaps in the tile grouting, swimming pool light, the weir & the aimflow?
Temporarily plug the area with underwater epoxy putty then monitor water levels for 24 to 48 hours. If the water levels are better now, that is great news. Give us a quick call to come and prepare a permanent solution.
Underground piping:
Lastly, leaking of underground piping needs to be inspected. Indications of underground leaking include water build up around the pool area, very green grass or damp soil patches.
Inspection of your underground swimming pool pipework can be difficult and may involve excavation into the ground around swimming pool pipe networks.
This includes cracked swimming pool light casings, the weirs & the aimflows. An epoxy patch here would not be the solution. Please give us a call to have a look.
Remember that if leaks are found on your swimming pool, time if of the essence.
Every swimming pool is different. A small leak can result in a major concern when water levels drop rapidly causing the shell to collapse inwards, structural cracks to develop or the pool pops (lifting off the ground) due to water pressure buildup underneath the pool.
